<p>Recently I was asked to write about  the effect on the local community of the rising number of people being tested positive</p>
<p>Now the fact in itself that I merely have to mention &#8216;the number of people being tested positive&#8217; for every one to understand what I am talking about is a testimony in itself.  Regrettably the statement excludes the logical math, that when  more people are being tested, <em>in numbers</em> more people will test positive! It is interesting to note however how statistics fail to show the percentage of people tested positive that actually become ill. Compared to March/April/May 2020 the number of people dying have so far remained low.</p>
<p>Perhaps it is time to remind ourselves of how the way we interpret life, in turn affects the way we feel, which ultimately expresses itself in what happens to us physically. Constantly being bombarded with statements that cause fear, undermines the natural human immune system in itself.</p>
<p>Ever since our hunter and gatherer days and beyond, our human immune system has been equipped with an energy system called triple warmer.  Triple warmer is a defense system .  It activates itself when faced with danger enabling the so called fight, flight or freeze respons. In ancient days this was helpful when for instance meeting a sabertooth tiger or hunting down a mammoth. Triple warmer then made sure the bulk of available energy was directed to arms and legs so one could run or fight or stay as still as possible; all systems alert for defense if necessary.</p>
<p>As soon as the sabertooth had passed however or the mammoth was conquered, triple warmer had a chance to calm down, allowing the body to unwind, relax, release the anxiety, take a break, that way  giving  <em>other</em> energy systems, serving <em>other</em> bodily functions a chance to recharge.<a href="https://www.energycounseling.nl/en/nan-yar/card24/"><img class="size-medium wp-image-1988 alignright" src="https://www.energycounseling.nl/en/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/en-24-175x300.png?x42940" alt="10 of Insights" width="175" height="300" /></a></p>
<p>With the modern times we live in now, the occasional sabertooth or food-hunt has transformed itself  into financial struggles,  social division, fear of disease,  polluted environments; global warming as well as additives, sugars and dead calories in our foods . As a result triple warmer remains switched on <em>constantly. A</em>s such it keeps on drawing energy <em>constantly</em> from other energy systems serving the heart, bladder, gallbladder, lungs and digestive system; (which explains why people have an increased need to go to the toilet when in fear) Eventually, this constant deprivation of energy opens the door to illness in the other systems. As such triple warmer being on the alert all the time causes reactions <em>undermining</em> rather than supporting the immune system</p>
<p>So&#8230; maybe it&#8217;s time to rethink how to stay safe and stay healthy; see how triple warmer can be put at ease rather than respond to the broadcasts of the number of people being tested positive.</p>
<p><strong>To ease anxiety&#8230;.you rock</strong></p>
<p>An amazing yet effective movement to ease fear, most likely used since ancient times and still used to this day at least on babies and toddlers, is rocking. Moving the body back and forth or from side to side has a very comforting effect on the flight, fight or freeze response. Interestingly enough the body in its natural wisdom is in the habit of wrapping its arms around itself while rocking in a gesture of self consolation. By doing so the hands &#8216;by chance&#8217; end up covering liver and liver acupressure points on the right side of the body, as well as spleen acupressure points on left side of the body, both at the height of the bra line at the flanks of the lower ribcage.<br />
Both organs play an important part in recharging the energy of the body (spleen) and letting go of toxins that accumulate under stress (liver).<br />
Just wrap your arms around your upper body and see where they end up.</p>
<p>Another way is to place the palm of the right hand over the left side of the lower rib cage while cupping the right elbow with the left hand. By doing so the right hand again covers spleen acupressure points , while the left hand covers two very important triple warmer acupressure points that ease anxiety.<br />
After a while, switch hands, placing the left hand over the liver, while cupping the left elbow with the right hand, thus again covering triple warmer acupressure points 10 and 11 at the back of the elbow, this time on the other side.</p>
<p><strong>Nourishing foods</strong> .</p>
<p>One of the silent killers these days are our eating patterns, causing diabetes and fatty arteries. Strangely enough a lot of what can be bought in supermarkets (on offer) has little nutritional value. Due to overproduction, the use of artificial stimulants and genetic manipulation many fruits and vegetables contain far less nutrients than they used to in the days when we would farm our own greens and meats or at least derive our foods from local farms.<br />
Make sure the vegetables and herbs you buy are fresh and recently harvested. The longer foods are stored, the less nutrients they contain.  Fortunately the trend to work with organic products is rising, thus diminishing the intake of toxins like pesticides and artificial additives.</p>
<p><strong>Stay in touch with nature</strong>.</p>
<p>A walk among the trees or along the shoreline is a natural anxiety cure. Nature is filled with positive vibes and will radiate comforting energy in tune with all seasons. Moving the body in these energies stimulates all energy systems in the body. Ever notice how you take a deep breath when something stressful is finally over? The outside air does that for you automatically when you go for a hike in nature.</p>
<p><strong>Stay in touch with yourself</strong></p>
<p>With all the headlines, breaking news, hourly news and thousands of commercial impulses fired away globally each waking moment of the day, the world&#8217;s population is drowning in programmed expectations, mostly serving more of Lord Economy&#8217;s needs than human requirements. Meanwhile we tend to forget what really matters. Do I really want to eat what is on offer? Do I really want to wear what is in fashion? Why am I binge watching entertainment? What else could I do with that time?<br />
I sometimes can be homesick for the 18th century, when life started at dawn and eased at sunset; when people ate what was in season and available; when time flew by organically organic rather than ruled by a watch.</p>
<p>When you start to think creatively about these things, the number of people infected will have less of a hold over you.</p>

<p>&#8220;Maybe you were a yogi in a past life&#8221; my inner voice joked.</p>
<p>My rational mind however disagreed. In fact what it recognized &#8211; even though perhaps not immediately at the time &#8211; was that my body has its own lexicon of wisdom with its own tools and own ways of coaching me into my best performance .  The natural mechanisms of our bodies to support us come so natural, we sometimes fail to validate them.</p>
<p>Before studying Yoga and later Energy Medicine it eluded me for the most part that when I put my hand on my painful stomach I am actually using the energy from the palms of my hands to sooth the fire! Or that when I stretch my body after waking up or having sat bend over my laptop for a long time, this is an automated response of my body to prepare itself to be set in motion again; much like a lioness stretching herself and having a good big yawn before going in for the kill.<a href="https://www.energycounseling.nl/en/nan-yar/card43/"><img class="size-medium wp-image-1951 alignright" src="https://www.energycounseling.nl/en/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/en-43-175x300.png?x42940" alt="1 of Tools" width="175" height="300" /></a></p>
<p>Now of course Yoga and Energy Medicine, which are similar in many ways, stem from a time period in human evolution when people<br />
were still in a close relationship with their bodies.  They had to! They needed their bodies every moment of the day. Should anything happen to their main tool on earth; the whole basis of their survival would break down!</p>
<p>That&#8217;s why creation installed the software of body knowledge, which operates more or less independently from the rational mind. Creation made sure the body knows how to breath, behave and adjust itself to the needs and activities of its rightful owner.  It makes sure that when the pace of life is increased, it knows how to meet the oxygen supply and energy flow. It also knows how to <em>slow down</em>, decrease its activity, give it a rest,  in moments in relaxation.</p>
<p>The main problem in modern day time is that while the human body has more or less stayed the same; the world around us has changed dramatically. We hardly recognize anymore how supportive our bodies are on our personal journeys. For cures we often reach out for chemical relief, rather than looking within to see what our bodies have to say about our behaviors.   A headache is conquered with an painkiller; clogged arteries with blood thinners; inflammations with anti inflammatories. Meanwhile  our bodies are silenced, disabled even to mobilize their own best performance.</p>
<p>Something to think about perhaps next time your body tells you it&#8217;s time to take a break&#8230;.</p>

<p>How often are you aware of the fact that it is easier to observe others than to have a closer look at yourself?</p>
<p>Knowing that each and every unique individual is here on earth to explore its own path, you would think humans should be more inclined to mind their own business rather than observe others; but fact is we spend more time evaluating what other people do; than that we do taking a good look at ourselves.</p>
<p>3 practical ways to observe oneself more closely, and subsequently improve the success rate of things happening in our <em>own</em> lives, is to simply observe the way you breath, walk and talk. Most of the time we perform these daily mechanisms <em>automatically</em>; with our bodies rhythms adjusting themselves to the urgency of what we <em>think </em>or <em>feel </em>we need to do. It can be a real a thrill however to take these habitual patterns a step further and explore the treasure chest of information they hold.</p>
<p>Rather than pursuing the big things; like the ideal of perfect happiness or following the latest trends, it can be surprisingly accommodating and most of all comforting to take time out every now and then to simply observe your own habits and rhythms.  Becoming aware of them, supplies loads of useful information on how you are doing .</p>
<p>Whenever I catch myself breathing a bit higher up in the chest for instance;  I become aware I must be more tense or hurried than I realized. By consciously relaxing my abdomen, I invite my breath down, at the same time create space for my chi point, my energy source; making my breathing  more effective, generating more energy as a result.</p>
<p>Especially when I have been over-active or under pressure for a while for whatever reason; I forget to step out of go-getters mode once it is all over. The other day I caught myself walking rather quick and uptight. I&#8217;d had a busy week with loads of appointments close together; but that particular day my agenda was blissfully blank. All I had done was take my car to the garage in the morning. As it was a nice sunny day I had decided to walk back. While walking I happened to notice my shoulders were much higher up than they needed to be. I purposely brought my awareness to the soles of my feet and experienced I was walking hastily. By consciously relaxing my pace I began to feel more connected to the earth. As a result I relaxed into an easier going rhythm with my shoulders lowering themselves automatically &#8216;without further ado&#8217; as Shakespeare would say.<img class="size-medium wp-image-1996 alignright" src="https://www.energycounseling.nl/en/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/en-4-175x300.png?x42940" alt="4 of Challenges" width="175" height="300" /></p>
<p>Another tool I find helpful in observing my own behavior is to listen to myself talk. When I catch myself talking louder, faster or using more words than necessary; this might indicate I am feeling apologetic, or still need to convince myself of what I am talking about.</p>
<p>All in all what I&#8217;m trying to say is tha<strong>t  &#8216;looking after yourself&#8217; might well be taken literally.</strong>  We can be so caught in the rhythm of jumping out of bed in the mornings and get going that we forget to give ourselves the gift of taking our own time; being nice and gentler to ourselves and therewith much more productive.</p>
<p><strong>The card that goes with this is the 4 of challenges.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Challenges</strong> because they have everything to do with the development of the I-consciousness</p>
<p><strong>The number 4</strong> because even though 4 is a balanced number; it&#8217;s strictness can keep us in certain patterns that in turn keep us from taking better care of ourselves. &#8220;There is more to explore after the 4.&#8221; The 5,6,7,8,9 and 10 are waiting to be explored.</p>
<p>Patterns and habits  can be changed. All one needs to do is take the first step; <em>becoming aware</em> and have the rest follow its own course. Your body has more brains than you might think and is there to support you; it means well.   Simply take a moment to observe.</p>
<p>The Chemistry of Change can do amazing things to your daily life.</p>

The first was with Felicity Warner, author of the Soul Midwives Handbook, all to do with helping people in their end of life transition. The other was with Prune Harris. Those of you who are in my Facebook energy counseling group will know Prune from the many handy youtube video&#8217;s, demonstrating short and practical exercises to lift the energies.</p>
<p>It had been a while since I had been traveling and I have to say it was good to be back. Traveling, moving from A to B always brings me in a state of understanding more about myself. The actual movement of traveling seems to be a wonderful metaphor for being underway with life; new learnings, new teachings, new understanding. It always makes me think of what Rudolph Steiner calls the sense of movement, as part of  his theory that people have 12 rather than 5 senses.</p>
<p>According to Steiner:</p>
<blockquote><p>The sense of movement  allows us to perceive what is happening in us when we have set some part of our body in motion.</p></blockquote>
<p>Now of course we can see this as a purely physical aspect. When I put one foot in front of the other, I sense that I can walk. But just think what that does to the rest of who you are. Just think of the wonder of a child (and its caretakers I might add) when it takes its first steps; when it starts to recognize it does not need to be lifted or moved around all the time; that it can actually <em>do </em>things for itself; <em>go </em>places without needing to be carried. Visualize  this and see what it does for the child&#8217;s development.<a href="https://www.energycounseling.nl/en/nan-yar/card55/"><img class="size-medium wp-image-1963 alignright" src="https://www.energycounseling.nl/en/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/en-55-175x300.png?x42940" alt="Queen of Tools" width="175" height="300" /></a></p>
<p>Only when we loose this ability of free movement are we confronted  with the limitations this brings along in more ways than we can imagine when we take our sense of movement for granted.</p>
<p>Traveling always makes me especially appreciative of this sense of movement. The feeling I have freedom of choice to go where I want; actually <em>going</em> somewhere; <em>doing</em> something. It brings up a sense of purpose really. Going somewhere different or new, changing scenery also appears to be a great way to jog my mind; get a different perspective on things.</p>
<p>The first part of my journey took me to the south of England in Dorset near the Jurassic coast. A lovely rural lifestyle with genuine people, locally grown food products, absence of traffic jams and finger-lifting horn-blowing car drivers, plus&#8230; very little bit Internet. I had to walk from the farmhouse I was staying to the main house to go and collect my e-mail and flex my social skills to try and communicate with people in different ways.  I also found myself doing country walks, climbing over fences to go the nearest village and get my shopping.  I was very much  &#8216;Away from the Madding crowd&#8217; as Dorset-born Victorian author Thomas Hardy woud say, and it was all so wonderful&#8230;..</p>

<p>We&#8217;ll see two people demonstrating the daily routine; Donna Eden herself and Prune Harris.  Observe, Compare, use them alternately; whatever way feels best for you.<br />
Even when you know the routine through and through; it&#8217;s nice to do it under guidance and go with the flow.</p>
<blockquote><p>When you are more comfortable with your body; your body is more comfortable to contribute something for a better world.</p></blockquote>
<p><strong>What the Donna Eden 5 minute daily energy routine will do for you:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Give the energy systems of your body a head start.<br />
</strong>By tapping certain acupressure points on the body, the energies are given a &#8216;kick-start&#8217;  (1 minute)</li>
<li><strong>Ensures the energies are crossed over. </strong><br />
Similar to the left hemisphere of the brain guarding the right half of the body and the right hemisphere of the brain guarding the left half of the body; the energies used in daily life are crossed over as well.<br />
At times however the overwhelming amount of information and impressions we receive on a daily basis, can be stalled out of self protection. This means the energies turn homo lateral (run in the same direction) and in a proverbial sense raise the white flag.<br />

I went there to do what is called the  Daily Energy Routine, a series of simple exercises designed by Energy Medicine author and pioneer Donna Eden together with her husband David Feinstein.</p>
<p>This series of exercise only takes 5 minutes out of my day. They set the flow of the energy in my body in motion and open up the energy pathways.</p>
<p>This way they help and prepare me to meet my daily challenges and more importantly secure my energy supply so I don&#8217;t flip out of it and start feeling drained when certain events or energy vampires bump into me during the day.</p>
<p>The coastline is a particularly fantastic place to the 5 minute daily routine as the surf itself is a place that contains special energies. The spot where  seawater meets land and  waves break on the sand contains a lot of  specially energized atmosphere, filled with what is called ions.</p>
<p>Ions are basically electrons, the stardust everything on earth in some form or another is made of. Under certain circumstances however, like the surf of a beach; the foot of a waterfall or centre of a thunderstorm, more of these specific ions are being produced; causing enhanced power to flow into the atmosphere.</p>
<p>The human body reacts very positive to this extra influx of energy  and responds by producing more serotonin; the human feel good hormone. So when exercising near the coastline; not only does the daily energy routine supply energy for the day; it also adds the bonus of  extra increasing my happiness levels.</p>
<p>Knowing this; you would think I go to the beach every day and do these wonderful exercises in order to get, -Dutch as I am- my free supply of resilience, but &#8216;Alas dear Yorick&#8217;, I have to shamefully admit, that even though I live only a short bike ride away from Scheveningen beach. I have to really bring myself to do this.<a href="https://www.energycounseling.nl/en/nan-yar/card16/"><img class="size-medium wp-image-5446 alignright" src="https://www.energycounseling.nl/en/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/IMG_2005-e1518779263689-300x225.jpg?x42940" alt="IMG_2005" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p>Nothing seems more difficult in that sense than overcoming my own shadow. I know exactly what is good for me; yet the more angry with the world I feel  or the more under the weather I am; the more difficult I find it to set myself in motion and put in the effort of energizing myself.</p>
<p>Rather than judging that however, I decided to praise myself this weekend for dragging me and my shadow down the arctic Dutch climate. Once there I found the sun had come out to greet me. I came back energized and filled with good stardust <img src="https://www.energycounseling.nl/en/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif?x42940" alt=":)" class="wp-smiley" /></p>

It was about children who get specialized education because they have what is seen as a learning disorder. They either are dyslectic or have problems calculating numbers or in general find it hard to transfer knowledge from paper to their cognitive senses.</p>
<p>When interviewed however, these children show an innate understanding of life; going way beyond the standard things our generations and those before us have been learning in school or were taught through cultural conditioning. In fact these children are profound deep and original thinkers and often highly sensitive to what happens around them.</p>
<p>They are diagnosed with  ADD, Attention Deficit Disorder which is seen as an inability to process information from the outside <a href="https://www.energycounseling.nl/en/nan-yar/card8/"><img class="size-medium wp-image-2000 alignright" src="https://www.energycounseling.nl/en/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/en-8-175x300.png?x42940" alt="8 of Challenges" width="175" height="300" /></a>world ; or ADHD when it involves hyperactivity as well. But what if these children are in fact <em>over</em>-capable to process information from the outside world?  What if their minds either shut down or scatter themselves all over the place in order to protect themselves from having to deal with this overload of information? What if these children are special in the sense that they are taking on a burden in the development of humanity?</p>
<p style="text-align: left">Simply look at what happened over the past 30 years. I happen to be of a generation that grew up without computers; without cellphones. In my days I wasn&#8217;t constantly confronted crazy presidents who deliberately deprive their peoples from health care or governments who keep people fleeing from war, torture and murder outside of their borders .</p>
<p>Now imagine yourself being born somewhere between 1990 and say 2010.  Look around you and what do you see? Would anyone over 40 years old agree that it&#8217;s a whole different ball game out there these days? Are we then surprised that children growing up in this world are confused? Shut themselves down? Flee into a hyperactive panic out of fear of what is happening to this world?</p>
<p>Mind you; I <em>do </em>see the positive of progress in how cellphones, social media and internet enable opportunities that else would be unattainable.  It is however also an outlet for all sorts of distorted world views. When remember what life was like in the old days; you get two sides of the story. Today&#8217;s children and teens only get what they see today and what they see is a world gone bonkers.</p>
<p>In fact I would say the world has developed ADD and ADHD and that these special children are merely adjusting to what is happening outside of them. Something to think about before we label them.</p>

<p>To protect ourselves against stress, nature has provided us with a build in stress defender; an energy pathway that runs through the body and transports the flow of energy.  This particular transport system goes by the name of Triple Warmer.  It jumps to attention when danger threatens  to invade our lives.</p>
<p>Triple warmer stems from the days we were living as hunter and gatherers and needed an adrenaline boost when a sabertooth tiger was threatening to attack us or when we needed some extra energy  power to go on a mammoth hunt.</p>
<p>Between then, 10.000 years ago and present day life, Triple Warmer basically still functions the same. The thing is though, the sabertooth tiger has become extinct and we get our mammoth in the supermarkets these days. Triple Warmer however is still there, waiting to fight off foreign invaders and dangers. It regards a lot of what is taking place in our lives these days as reason to be on guard, such as:</p>
<ul>
<li>artificial sweeteners, preservatives; colorings in our foods;</li>
<li>overcrowded public transport</li>
<li>mail from the tax office</li>
<li>toxic relationships</li>

<p><a href="https://www.energycounseling.nl/en/nan-yar/card9/"><img class="size-medium wp-image-2001 alignright" src="https://www.energycounseling.nl/en/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/en-9-175x300.png?x42940" alt="9 of Challenges" width="175" height="300" /></a>Next to that; the big difference between our hunter and gatherer days and our present day and age is that in the old days the<br />
mammoth at some point would have been hunted down and be roasting on an open fire. The sabertooth would have gone back to its den. Triple warmer, at some point, would have switched itself off and would have taken a break.</p>
<p>Our modern day lives however provide very little of  such downtime. Today&#8217;s hunter and gatherers are constantly pressured to achieve things; meet the costs of living, watch breaking news from all over the world.  Without us even noticing it, our bodies are on the alert 24/7. As a result the Triple Warmer meridian is constantly drawing energy from the general supply of the body; as such depleting the other energy pathways of other bodily functions. Worst case scenario, this can lead to burn out.</p>
<p>The good news is that once you become aware of this process you can take conscious steps to de-stress. Grounding exercises, yoga, tai chi, qi gong, nature walks; tv-less nights; conscious cooking; mindful living, they all help you to unwind and signal TW  to relax and be cool.</p>

Things you used to abide by but have now totally sunk into oblivion..?</p>
<p>When you live among the trees day by day, it is hard to see them change and all the more easy to get distracted by animals passing by, rainstorms threatening your comfort zone or greedy societies chopping down your existance. What I mean to say by this metaphor, is that we sometimes loose track of what we started off wanting to do with our lives because we get distracted by  so many outside world things happening to it.</p>
<p>In a way that is a good thing. We happen to live in the outside world. Our main task on earth is to make the best of it; and to make the best of our own lives we need to make the best of what happens in our outside world as well, otherwise the two don&#8217;t match.</p>
<p>The problem with most of today&#8217;s outside world however is that it is so greedy. It wants to earn and preserve loads of money rather than share and live long and prosper.</p>
<p>I had all these contemplations pop up in my brain this morning because of a Facebook post I made 4 year ago according to  the reminder. It&#8217;s titled:</p>

<p><strong>3 Changes to Get an Energy Boost</strong></p>

<p>I was sort of flabbergasted, reading my own 4-year-old advice.</p>

<li><strong>I still have <em>expectations</em> for myself, feeling I should be capable to handle stress in an efficient manner, having memorized the numerous techniques to do so. No slack there. <img src="https://www.energycounseling.nl/en/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif?x42940" alt=":(" class="wp-smiley" /> </strong><strong>So basically I still feel the dentist can hardly have a toothache).</strong></li>
<li><strong><em>Negotiations</em>: I still defend why some things really can&#8217;t wait; while when I think about it, a lot of them are self-inflicted-deadlines</strong></li>
<li><strong><em>Observations</em>: I still do a lot of  what I do to serve and please the outside world first, rather than my own life. </strong></li>
</ul>
<p>Quite  an eye opener for someone who is &#8216;into&#8217; personal development on a daily basis. A good reminder in this festive season as well; so easily crowded by expectation and negotiations and where a little extra <em>O</em>bservation wouldn&#8217;t hurt.</p>

<p>&#8216;Be mindful of your self talk&#8217;, somebody told me this week, &#8216;it&#8217;s a conversation with the Universe&#8217;</p>
<p>Basically it means that the way you<em> view</em> life is the way you <em>get</em> life. When you&#8217;re grumpy, you get a grumpy day; when you&#8217;re vicious you get a sour day, and on the positive side, when you&#8217;re joYful and grateful, you get a joYful day to be grateful for.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.energycounseling.nl/en/nan-yar/card41/"><img class="size-medium wp-image-1970 alignright" src="https://www.energycounseling.nl/en/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/en-34-175x300.png?x42940" alt="6 of Gifts" width="175" height="300" /></a>So it depends on how you tune in.<br />
Much like a radio station tuning into the right wavelength to be able to broadcast;<br />
and radio listeners tuning into same frequency to be able to hear the broadcast,<br />
people do the same and  communicate at a certain frequency with the outside world as well.</p>
<p>But then, there are those days, outside our jurisdiction, when the Universe seems to be hammering us. Where one energy consuming thing after the other drops in, takes up time; influences moods or sometimes even worse the stamina for life.</p>
<p>So what to do when this happens? How to get your energies buzzing again, up the frequency and tune into the buzz?</p>
<p>All human bodies have a system as old as humanity itself. It&#8217;s  is called the <em>flight or fight</em> response. It dates back to the old days when we were still hunters and gatherers and had the occasional confrontation with a sabertooth tiger.  When that happened, the human body in defense, would drain most of the blood out of the frontal lobe of the brain, located in the forehead and send it to the limbs of the body, the arms and legs, so that the person threatened by the sabertooth could either run away as fast as possible or use all energy to fight it.</p>
<p>A side effect of the &#8216;<em>flight or fight&#8217;</em> is that the brain stops emitting its happy grateful creative frequency, the one we function in best.</p>
<p>In our modern day times, we still have this response. The difference is that the sabertooth has become extinct and has been <a href="https://www.energycounseling.nl/en/nan-yar/card41/"><img class="size-medium wp-image-1977 alignleft" src="https://www.energycounseling.nl/en/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/en-41-175x300.png?x42940" alt="Queen of Gifts" width="175" height="300" /></a>replaced by other forms of stress of which we have <em>plenty</em> in our world today, &#8211; I am sure you can think of your own examples.</p>
<p>A very simple way to help yourself when this happens, is to place your thumbs on your temples and your fingertips on the forehead, just underneath the hairline, (where most of us have slight indentations). You can even think of what is causing the stress and turmoil, for the technique will help you process the trauma of what happened that wiped out your energies, while at the same time the blood will return to your frontal lobe and returns your ability for creative thinking.</p>
<p>I am not embarrassed to say I used this exercise on myself today when I found myself incapable of writing and recording this weeks Dutchbuzz blog because of loads and loads of turmoil going on in my life at present, both good and bad,  but all in all: Too Much!</p>
<p>So if it had not been for Donna Eden&#8217;s Energy Medicine, the listeners of the recorded version of this blog, would have been listening to some music right now.</p>

A short getaway to be <em>away</em> for a while? But away from what, one may wonder?</p>
<p>Wouldn&#8217;t it be better to change your regular environment? Take a different stand towards your daily routines? Re-apply the energy it takes to do on a daily basis what is expected of you? Or what you <em>think</em> is expected of you? Or what you expect of yourself?</p>
<p>On coming back from their holidays, some people tend to get the holiday blues, with their time-out having been so nice that they are reluctant to return to the daily treadmill.</p>
<p>Todays inhabitants of the fast-moving society, are constantly directed through stress, with adrenaline consistently urging the body to go to its limits. In some ways this is even experienced as pleasurable because the hormones responsible for making us active, also have the added effect of making us feel &#8216;on top of the world&#8217;.</p>
<p>In itself &#8216;stress&#8217; is a healthy and natural response of the body to take action, a mechanism humanity has tagged along since the dawn of (wo)mankind.</p>
<p>In our hunter and gatherer days &#8216;stress&#8217; was desperately needed to outrun the sabertooth tiger or hunt for food. But 5000+ year ago, that wasn&#8217;t something we did <em>all-day-long</em>.</p>
<p>There was no 70-80 hour &#8216;saber-tooth-avoiding-working-week&#8217;. Nor was there the necessity to be able to buy all sorts of material trophies; possessions of which commerce tells us we can&#8217;t live without them.</p>
<p>Yet what do these trophies actually bring us? Peace and quiet? Relaxation time? Can we finally unwind when we have the latest television sets in our rooms to watch the latest news? Or the latest action-movie? Does our daily environment support our self care needs? Or is the balance somewhat off, slowly undermining the constant flow of energy; if you don&#8217;t watch it, to a point where you desperately need a holiday&#8230;</p>
<p>Maybe it&#8217;s time we did what our ancestors did and weave holiday self care into daily life.<br />
The Hunter and Gatherers certainly weren&#8217;t hunting and gathering all day. They took their moments in between, made sure they were as comfortable as possible <em>during</em> what was expected of them. They certainly didn&#8217;t take a break for a couple of days to be away from it all.</p>
<p>Literally for a start, a simple way to achieve this in today&#8217;s world, would be not to jump out of bed immediately after sleep but take some time instead. As if you are on a holiday. Stretch. Take a look out of the window. Take it easy. Make yourself some breakfast. Sit yourself down and observe your environment, like you would on a holiday. Take a few moments entirely for yourself; repeat that a couple of times throughout your day.</p>
<p>Another one is: Don&#8217;t rush. If you&#8217;re late, you&#8217;re late. Being anxious about it does&#8217;t change being late. Getting up or leaving 20 minutes earlier,- taking your time-, does.</p>
<p>And it doesn&#8217;t require any material trophies.<br />
It&#8217;s free! It&#8217;s within you and always there when you need it.<br />

Instead of going on a much needed holiday, they took breaks and applied natural healing techniques throughout the day.</p>
<p>In our present day and age, we hardly <em>get</em> or <em>take</em> the time to nourish our daily energy needs.  Life is pressured, with a constant need to answer to the call of economy, trends and external must haves.</p>
<p>It is no coincidence that ancient health exercise such as Yoga and Energy Medicine are gaining ground again after centuries of absence.<br />
Just like the Paleo diet which has come into fashion lately, teaching us ways to eat the way our ancestors ate; the ancient wisdom of our forefathers has also something to teach us in the field of Well-Being.</p>
<p>Humanity has been given very important tools  at creation; powers that went dormant when we started to use our brains rather than our intuitive skills. Fortunately, our bodies kept these tools in their DNA.</p>
<p>We still put our hand where it hurts,  we still yawn when we&#8217;re tired and we still rub our eyes when we want to re-focus, all natural techniques to balance and reconnect the energy pathways of the body.</p>
<p>The reason we stopped being aware of these limitless sources of healing is largely because we changed our social standards and ways of looking at healthcare.<br />
In ancient times people did not have a pharmaceutical industry to save them from energy blockages, which is where illness originates from. Instead they relied on acupressure, stretching and exercise techniques to get their energies running.<br />
In modern day society, we use chemicals and refrain from stretching or yawning in public, as it is seen a sign of boredom or even considered rude to do so.</p>
<p>Stretching however, is a simple and natural technique of the body to open up to the several systems that govern the flow of energy;<br />
while yawning is simply a way of the body to reconnect the two main meridians, which meet at the back of the throat.<br />
Take a moment to do a good yawn and you&#8217;ll find you can actually <em>feel</em>, these two meridians reconnect.</p>
<p>Several different methods are available again these days, to re-install the ancient techniques of Body Language, ranging from simply stretching or taking a sturdy walk in nature, to yoga, energy medicine, acupressure points and ways to massage the body.</p>
<p>One I highly recommend and demonstrate in the Body Language of Energy group and individual sessions, is the 5 minute daily routine composed by Donna Eden.<br />
It boosts the immune system , gets the energies flowing, gives you a prefect start of the day and supports you when you need to revitalize during stress or illness.<br />
